[Harp-L] Criss Angel Mindfreak and Johnny Thompson

Hang on! No, Criss doesn't play harmonica that I know of, but one of his magic consultants does. Anyone familiar with the name Johnny Thompson will be aware that he is one of, if not the most, talented bass harmonicists in the world. Anyone who attended the Chicago SPAH Convention in 1992 will remember him. He and wife Pam appeared on stage and performed a short magic show (unappreciated by many as they were unaware of his true reason for being there). After the magic show was concluded, he and the other members of his trio, Harmonica Jazz Trio, Al Fontana on chromatic, Bob Herndon on chord and Harmonetta, and Johnny on single reed bass, performed in a show of shows! A fantastic trio of the 1950's who with drums were also dubbed the Harmonica Jazz Quartet. Recordings have been circulating for many years, and may still be available from private collections.

Why mention it now? Johnny appears frequently on Mindfreak (A&E) as consultant, and describes some of Criss' effects.

Shown in 4 consecutive 1/2 hour segments each Tuesday night, beginning at 10pm, not all segments feature Johnny, but many do. This evening (7/24/07), he is featured in the 1st segment a number of times, though not in the 2nd. Possibly in the 3rd and/or the 4th, but they haven't been shown as yet. And no, you will not see any bass harmonica on the show!?!
