I don't know about now, but back in 1960 I joined in N.Y. when I lived on Staten Island. I think the local was 802 (maybe 814?), but you can ask Rob Paparozzi because he might be in that local. If he isn't, he might belong to local 1000 which is reserved for TOURING musicians and usually used by people who don't have a permanent base.

What does it take to become a member of the union? Is there a test?

Or is the business such that nobody needs to join a union to get jobs today?
