Re: [Harp-L] Red Archibald RIP

I heard (saw) Red perform at the annual "Battle of the Blues Harps" in Long
Beach, California, back in the late nineties. It was the first time I'd
heard live harp in years, and got me interested in harp again. Rod Piazza
and the Mighty Flyers were there, James Harman, and as I recall, a very
intense, energetic performance by Red. I recall asking him, at break, what
kind of harp he played, and he said he played "Big River". I hadn't heard
about it at that time, but later found it to be one of the least expensive
harps, surprisingly. You think these guys always get the top end,,

He just took a less expensive harp, added gusto, talent, class, blood, sweat
and tears, and played it like a pro, making it sound good in the process. I
was overwhelmed at his energy.
