A practical thing I do to dispel nervousness before going onstage is
to do a number of breathing exercises.  The first thing out the window
when I am nervous is correct breathing, and working on restoring
relaxed, full breathing helps relax my mind as well.

You know, if I can't control the fear in my mind, then I lead the body
through the motions of not being afraid.

I gotta admit, that although it's easy to poke fun at a book in this
vein, Werner's book did help me further define what a successful
practice session is.  And what "mastery" is.
