[Harp-L] Recording advice needed

You said VHS so I was assuming video. If it is only audio, then the job is much easier. Dave's suggestion to use Audacity is good.

I have a VHS tape compilation of live performances by the late Kansas
City bluesman Little Hatch, which I purchased at a fundraiser benefit
for his family shortly after his death. I would like advice about how
to transfer the audio to cd format, and possibly a program to mix it
for better quality. Would this be something one of the digital
recorders would do nicely? This isn't for the purpose of creating
bootlegs; I just hate thinking I'm wearing the tape out every time I
watch it or risk the machine eating it, so it just sits on the shelf.
Thanks,

GoVideo makes a combo VHS/DVD player/recorder. You can play a VHS tape in one side and record it on to a DVD on the other. I have one and have copied most of my collection of VHS instruction to DVD. Perhaps you can find someone near you who has one (I think they cost about $200 nowadays. I was able to pick mine up used for $69 though.)

It can be done with a personal computer and the right hardware and software. But not all of us have the necessary stuff to do it. It requires a fast computer, fast video capture hardware, and the proper software.

If it is not copyrighted and you don't sending it to me I will do it for you. We can discuss it offline.
