I would be very careful about any "facts" that are passed your way. As
you may have noticed from recent postings, there is a good deal of hype
that has echoed through harmonica lore for years as fact, much of it
generated by the Hohner publicity machine over the last 100 years or
so. 

A good deal of it is fanciful, pretty much on the level of urban
legend.   While much of this lore is widely believed, it often does not
hold up under scrutiny. It may be fine to pass it on as colorful
legend, but I'd be careful about calling much of it "fact." 

The Schirra story is probably verifiable. The Abraham Lincoln story, on
the other hand, appears to be fanciful. The Civil War image is dubious
on the face of it, though further research on harmonica importation in
the second quarter of the 19th Century may yet give it some credence.
