Re: [Harp-L] Hummel, Musselwhite, Wilson, BOSE PAS, Orlando

*Similar to Larry's experience, I organized a show for Wednesday February 28
in Gainesville Florida for "Mark Hummel and The Blues Survivors"**. *
**
*Our Blues Society in Gainesville is very small and fairly new. We are
unable to sponsor a Blow-Out show. Fortunately Mark Hummel arranged to
play a regular Mark Hummel and the Blues Survivors show in our city, during
his Blow-Out tour. *
**
*As Larry says, we too would love to see all Harp-L'ers in the area come out
to share this awesome experience with us. Mark is a pleasure to work, and
better yet, there is some serious harmonica playing to be heard.*
**
*Big things are getting ready to happen in our small town !*
**
*Local guitar enthusiasts are getting excited about seeing Rusty Zinn. *
**
*Good things like this only happen once in a BLUE moon !*

Now the story may be told:

About 2 1/2 weeks ago, I got an urge to do what I'd been trained to do
during the Golden Age of SPAH Old Philosophy days - create, co-ordinate,
promote and enjoy a concert.

Since Mark Hummel's Blues Harmonica Blow Out featuring Charlie
Musselwhite, Kim Wilson and special guest Rusty Zinn, was making a swing
through the Sunshine (Hurricane/tornado) State, I decided to bring this show
to the Orlando area.
In the last 2 weeks I was able to negotiate and consumate contracts with
the artists through their agency, line up a venue, set a promotional plan in
order and make it a reality. What is even more exciting (for me) is that,
since it is basically my show, I can decide on the PA and equipment used for
the show. Even though the venue has a built in system (with big mixing
board, mains, monitors, effects units, Graphic Equalizer, power amps, etc
etc etc), I'm opting for my minimalist BOSE PAS system, one 16 channel
board, one small digital delay, and eight SM-58 mics/stands, to create an
ultimate listening experience for the audience and a (hopefully)
philosophical changing experience for the artists.

The venue is called Captain and the Cowboy and is a beautiful old white
mansion that was converted to a restaurant/bar banquet center and stands on
a beautiful piece of land about 14 miles N of Orlando just outside of
Apopka. A big plus is the free valet parking available. In Orlando, parking
is always an expensive hassle for attending shows downtown. I hope to help
this venue develop into a real destination offering quality concerts as an
alternative to the Orlando/Disney/Universal cookie cutter approach.

The show is March 2nd. Information is on their website -
www.captainandthecowboy.com

All "L"ers in the Central Florida area are encouraged to attend this event
as I hope it to transcend the usual biker bar beer drinking experience that
a lot of these blues shows turn out to be. Already a large contingency is
driving in from the Tampa area to attend. The success of this show will open
the door to my bringing more musical events (blues, jazz, folk, etc) to this
area.

So, instead of sitting back and criticizing, I'm back in operation after 7
years of dormancy, and it feels GREAT.

The future is looking so bright that I'll need sunglasses.
