i once read an interview with jerry garcia where he commented that for
most deadheads the song "dark star" was the particular version on the 
"Live Dead" album.  whereas for him, it was the totality of the experiences
over the many many times they played that song, and the "Live Dead"
version was just one snapshot of that.  a "mark in time", if you will.
