I used one for years with a Shure C25G Hi/LoZ cable.  Still have it, just in
case...  You can get pretty good compression with a good cup.

You can't go wrong having a SM-58 [or 2] in your gig bag.

I also use one to mic my little Kalamazoo2 when needed.
