Fw: [Harp-L] HarpMaster vs. Delta Frost (was Bushuki vs. Suzman)

Yes, yes, I know the instructions say to put quotes from prior posts when referenced. But I know that I am in trouble when I receive too detailed a response.

Agreed, all harmonicas have advantages or disadvantages based on personal likes, dislikes, playing style, and judgement. If everybody would go for the same type of harmonica life would be boring, wouldn't it ;-)?

Your english is fine. Gritty, gnarli, or crispy, crunchy, sound just as silly when a gringo says them. Bushman also describes the Delta Frost that way. Excuse the lack of citation, but you probably got that analogy from Bushman.

I have a Delta Frost, a HarpMaster, and two BluesMasters. I don't have the Delta Frost with me, but to the best of my memory, I tried to swap the plates with the Suzuki's, and it wouldn't take. I definitely think that the BluesMaster is quieter and harder blowing than the HarpMaster. If that is entirely a product of my trying to compensate for the different cover plates, then shame on me. What I don't know is how durable the Delta Frost is. I have no idea whether or not you could get a Delta Frost out of a reed plate swap between a HarpMaster and a BluesMaster. I thought about that and decided I didn't want one, so why waste my time checking it out. I also have some serious doubts that the phosphor bronze reeds are more durable, as opposed to the brass reeds that look the same on the Lee Oskar and the HarpMaster. Both of those are extremely durable.

I didn't mean to say that your posts were derogatory. Let's not go back and check citations. That's another sign of trouble. You like the Bushman Delta Frosts and the Suzuki HarpMasters. I like the Seydel's and the Bushman Soul's Voice. We both detect a slight change in the two harmonicas we like, and not the ones we don't like. Let's leave it at that.

On to another response to a harmonica requiring a break-in period:

Having had time to think about it; The speed and pattern of the reeds vibrating probably has the most impact on the sound coming out of a harmonica. I'm sure they slow down over time, but that is not what I meant by "break-in." I have to believe that the gap can change over time if it is gapped extremely tight. I purchased four Soul's Voices at the same time and could have gotten a lot with all wide gaps. It couldn't have been that way with my purchase of four Seydels spread out over time. They were all gapped tight out of the box when new. I could compare them with the older ones with the new ones when I got them.
