Re:[Harp-L] Johnson amp

HI,

The 8 ohm jack is for an external speaker cabinet only. This would overdrive the input of any PA or other amp if you tried to use it. (It might actually damage an unprotected input.)

If there is a line out jack that can be used to patch into another amp or PA boards input. Another option is to use the "Effect Send" jack if there is one but no "Line Out" jack. These jacks supply the proper levels for PA inputs.

If patching into another guitar amp input you will likely need a "DI" box which matches the low impedance of line out or effect send jacks to the high impedance inputs of guitar amplifiers. A lot of clubs will have these laying around if they have a "house PA".

If there is no line out or effect send jacks, then use a good cardiod or super cardiod microphone placed in front of the amps speaker to get the sound into the PA. It will take some experimentation to get the right mix with the stage monitors to avoid feedback. Again, lot of clubs with a "house PA" will have extra microphones for this purpose.

I find mic'ing the amp is the best option because you dial in the sound of your amp to get the tonal qualities you desire, and then the PA can mix it to the necessary level to get the right overall sound mix with the band. (Sometimes the amp's speaker is a big part of it's sound and bypassing it via a line out arrangement will give you a very different sound!)

I hope this helps...

Jam On!
