Re: [Harp-L] Para Accoustic DI by LR Baggs?

Hi Richard

You can attempt to compensate by boosting gain/volume and EQ settings (presence and upper-mid) on the DI unit, but as you may have already suspected, the tone-suckage feature of pedals like the infamous Dan-Echo has an additional dimension maybe having to do with phase. Something like the BBE Sonic Maximizer might help.

In terms of impedance mismatch, and believe me I'm no expert here: by placing the pedal in the Baggs' (buffered) FX loop, the impedance mismatch is pretty much a none-issue, since the input of the pedal doesn't "see" the mic - and yet the suckage remains. Alternatively, If the DI is placed ahead of the pedal, the mic sees the high Z input of the DI and the pedal sees the relatively low Z ouput of the DI - same suckage.

I agree whole heartedly with your sentiments from another post that modeling signal processors are a great way to go. For less than the cost of the Dan-Echo mod, one can get lower-end units from Digitech, Korg Toneworks, and others. The delays built into some of these units are really extraordinary - my fav for $70 is the Korg AX3G.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim, in your experience does this unit make it easier to plug a harp mic into a delay pedal without sucking tone out of the pedal? In other words, does it make it unnecessary to modify effects pedals to match the impedance of the mic?
