Re: [Harp-L] RE: Stupid volumes and egos

Absolutely. It is the "standard" sound for mid to big sized venues.

At HOB in Orlando, we opened up for Acoustic Alchemy and also another time for Cassandra Wilson. In both cases, especially for Cassandra, the sound crew pumped the kick drum and bass through the house PA so loud that both shows totally lost the intimate acoustic sound that makes these artists a wonderful sonic experience.

The music was IN YO FACE. The audience seemed clueless. It totally perplexes me and then I find out that I am the anomoly - one of the very few who finds this a problem rather than the standard musical concert.

One way that I am taking the bull by the horns is in using the BOSE PA system and, whenever I have the authority, TELLING the sound crew how I want the volume.

Maybe we who realize how ridiculous this volume thing is need to
re-educate the public.

Sometimes I think the audience just thinks this is the way it needs to
be because they don't know any different.

I think maybe deaf sound guys may have something to do with it too.
