[Harp-L] Lee Oskar harps...was Jerry Portnoy CDs

I agree with you on the Lee Oskars regarding value. You can buy them for
about $24 bucks, or less, but they seem to last forever. I have some harps
I've been blowing hard for five or six years...hell, longer for some. I
myself love the tone, the way they slide on my lips, and the way they feel
in my hand and in my mouth. I keep trying out other harps, the latest being
the Suzuki Promaster, but I just can't get no satisfaction with anything but
the Lee Oskars.

Regarding the Portnoy CDs, I've got a signed copy sitting on my desk that I
bought at the Mark Hummel Harmonica Blowout a few weeks ago in Oakland. I
was talking with Jerry at the merch table and I just HAD to buy the CDs.
I've been playing for over 30 years and I've never tongue blocked.
Everytime I try it, it just doesn't feel right or sound right. I live lip
blocking...but I feel that if I am going to grow and become a more rounded
player, I should give tongue blocking a chance.

I guess I'll be pitched back to square one and I'm not even sure I'll ever
get into tongue blocking, but I will indeed give it a shot.

Get a harp in A. Without one you'd be burdening yourself unnecessarily with

this course. I think a Lee Oskar in A major diatonic would serve you well
- good quality and long-lasting. You get what you pay for, and you get a
lot for a modest outlay with Lee Oskars. It's probably worth saying that
any confirmed non-tongue-blocker buying this set will probably think that
they're being pitched right back to square one no matter how good they are -
he gets you at it right from the word go. Not a hassle for a beginner
though!
