RE: [Harp-L] "Fattening Frogs For Snakes"...whats that all about?!?!?

Yeah, I think this comes closest to the meaning. It's not just one thing,
although it could indeed be the music business "snakes" as well as other
"snakes", including ex-girlfriends, etc. Here's a snippet of a review I
read recently on Amazon.com for "Rollin' and Tumblin' : The Postwar Blues
Guitarists". It seems to sum up Joel's post below about being a chump. And
one of my favorite lines in life is from, I believe, PT Barnum: "Never give
a sucker an even break or smarten up a chump." I can never seem to live by
that line, but I like it nonetheless. I'd probably be richer if I did. :-)

"Ask about Sonny Boy's "Fattenin' Frogs For Snakes" and Southern whites will
start talking about frogs and snakes; blacks recognize that this is about
working and not getting paid or buying a dress for a woman who goes off with
another man."

The most generic meaning is being a chump. More specifically, doing the
work so someone else can get the credit/profit.

I don't think SBWII had a specific incident in mind, but who knows. The
phrase is a good hook.
