[Harp-L] Sam Myers current condition

All,
I just thought I would let everyone here know that Sam will be operated on
tomorrow morning(sat.) around 9:30 am to remove a very aggressive throat cancer
tumor. They are very hopeful that they can remove all of the cancer, and feel
Sam can live a long healthy life after surgery. Unfortunately this also means
that he will never sing again or play the harmonica. A voice box will be
implanted during surgery and he will be able to talk again in 2-4 weeks. I have
heard that voice boxes have been improved quite a bit and he should be able to
speak in a normal voice. I spoke with Sam on the phone this afternoon, and he
was in good spirits, although he sounded weak. He has recently recovered from a
bout with pneumonia which accounts for some of the weakness. Sam had traveled
to Minnesota for the second round of special cancer treatments when they
discovered that the tumor had grown to twice it's size and was too aggressive for
the treatment originally prescribed.
Anson Funderburgh and myself are unable to make the trip to be with Sam, but
Joanna Iz from southwest blues foundation is flying in tomorrow to be with Sam
through this ordeal. I ask all to please keep Sammy in your prayers,
much thanks,
Hash Brown
