RE: [Harp-L] Van Morrisson Precious Time

Pic,
I'm new to the harp, but here are a few thoughts for this song. The chords are a simple I - IV - I - V pattern, and the solo is built around a standard R&B 5 note (pentatonic) scale: G, A, B (or more often Bb), D, and E. Don't know what key you're doing it in, on the album it's in G. You could use C harp (helps for bending the Bb) but the song lays really well on a G harp.

With a G you could comp along with the chords using a 2 note pattern like this:
I: 4/5 B
IV: 4/5 D
I: 5/6 B
V: 3/4 D

Solo lines can be built around the notes of this scale:
4B - 4D - 5B - 6B - 6D - 7B

The solo doesn't need a lot of lines, listen in the 2nd solo section how Pee Wee Ellis just holds a note for half a verse then later keeps repeating the same rhythm on the same note for 4 bars. Simple, but it works.

Have fun with it,
Charlie

A friend of mine wants me to learn a harp solo to fill in for the sax solo
in Van Morrisson's song Precious Time. Anyone have any suggestions on how to
convert a sax solo to a good harp solo? Or better yet how about a tab for it.
