Re: [Harp-L] Freddie King's "The Stumble" and learning from guitar

Thanks for the help guys! I think I can get a handle
on the tune, and I like the idea of supporting the
song rather then trying to cut into the guitar work.
It is also fun to work on something other then a I IV
V.

We do a lot of Freddie King and Albert Collins tunes.
Hideaway is one of my favorites and I try to emulate
the organ part from one of the many versions I've
heard. Can't remember which one. It always goes over
well. We play Tore Down too, but I don't think I've
ever played harp on that one.

I've actually spent some time trying to play some of
those guys's guitar solos. You can sometimes get a
little bit of an Albert Collins feel playing third
position major in the middle octave. I know that most
nights I play the head to his solo in Too Tired (in
cross, however), but then eventually go my own way. I
also play some of his stuff from Dirty Dishes in third
major. When we play Love Her With A Feeling, I
sometimes play Freddie's solo pretty much note for
note (and then get back to "my" stuff).

Whereas I'd never play a harmonica solo I've
transcribed note for note in a live setting, it can be
really fun to quote a guitar player or other
insturment. I tend to get a few head turns from the
guitar players in attendance when I do stuff like
that.
