Tim,
	As a comment only(i don't as of yet work on my harps), dentist use carbon
to highlight areas that need adjusting when they are fitting a crown. Would
a similar tech. work by tapping the carbon sheet between the reed and slot
to highlight ridges in the slot?

Embossing will reveal all manner of irregularities in the reeds and
slots.  It could be that the reed is just off center a little.
