[Harp-L] Augusta highlights

Just returned from a WONDERFUL Augusta blues/swing week.

Some highlights for me-

Wednesday Elkins townie concert- Iceman organized a terrific noon concert at the Elkins cultural center, a converted church. Great performances by Icey, Carlos Del Junco and RJ, a remarkable 16 year old student of Iceman.

Joe Filisko evening performance class and "salon"- This is an unstructured run-what-ya-brung student performance clinic with extremely supportive critique by Joe and, get this, Dennis Greunling and, get this, Alan Holmes. Class started at 6:30 PM, and Carlos, Grant Demody and Iceman would drop by toward the end at about 11:00 PM. It got real interesting when the students finished, because the instructors would then play. Magical displays of musicality, variety, listening, improvisation, humor, camaraderie.

Dennis Greunling- His too-brief performance at the ending dance blew the roof off the pavilion. His playing has evolved greatly since his recordings. A must hear!!!

Hanging with harmonica solemates from previous years and meeting new ones.
