Re: [Harp-L] looking for a good acoustic mic

The AT4050 you already own might in fact be a good solution for you --
couple that with an inexpensive ART MP or other preamp to supply the mic

SM545.

I don't actually own an AT 4050. It's just the sound I want. I do own a Mackie board and a P.A. so phantom power isn't a concern but thanks to both Richard and George for making sure I understood that condenser mic's required phantom powwer. I'm not currently really using the 545 to try and get an acoustic sound. Last night I played through 2 Whites split left and right on the stage out of an Alesis Midiverb 3 using the 545 as my mic. It's definitely an amplified sound and set up. I'm missing being able to employ my hands in shaping of the sound so I'd like to find a microphone for going into the P.A. that has a good acoustic sound like the AT 4050. As George points out the large diaphragm condensers are fragile. I did read everything on the Pro Pages of Richard Hunter's site. Tom uses a relatively inexpensive PE54D Unidyne III which works great for him. I've heard Tom live and I understand why he's chosen this microphone but it's not the sound I'm looking for plus I don't need the mic to work well for vocals. KEL? I'll have to do some research. fjm
