Re: [Harp-L] no way

Probably depends on how many members of the public are with you in the shower, John :).

Anyway, this from the PRS website
" Performing Right Society (PRS) Licence
When music is played in public the owner of the copyright is entitled, by law, to payment from the music user. The Performing Right Society is an organisation that collects and distributes this money (known as 'royalties') to it's members - the owner of the copyright (usually the composer or their publisher).

A PRS licence is required for the live performance or public playing of copyright music by any means. This includes jukeboxes, CD's, video, radio, TV or live bands and discos."

I guess they're just out to maximize their income by any means.

Off at a tangent, a guy here in the UK who runs a music shop was on the radio here, last night. He had a call from the Performing Rights Society asking him if purchasers tried out the instruments before buying. When he said "yes", they said, "well you need a licence from us then, if they are playing copyrighted material".

Makes your eyes water.
