I'm not much of a traveler, but I have to agree that Portland has a big (particularly for it's relative size), strong blues scene. It's also a very "artsty" area, and musicians from bluegrass to jazz seem to be among the "hippest", I guess. (It's down in Eugene where you find them the "hippiest.") From what I'm told of others who have toured the country, Portland also has one of the most healthy blues organizations around.
