I am trying to compile a Cajun harmonica discography for an upcoming Sing Out! column. Can anyone help with this? My piano playing friend George Winston is also interested in knowing more about this topic.

Hi Glenn,
Not really a field of expertise for your's truly, but I can add one to the list: the great Cajun band Nathan Abshire and his Pine Grove Boys made a few recordings with La La Laverne on vocals and bluesman Lazy Lester on harp. This was an unusual combination for Louisiana in the late 50s/early 60's, both because of the mixed races of the players and because of the musical cross-influences. The song "The La La Blues" (Kajun 507, a Jay Miller label) has to be heard to be believed... it almost sounds like it was recorded backwards! Great stuff!

cheers,
Tom Ball
