[Harp-L] John Popper - I'll say his name.

To all,

Bravo for Cara. She says it as it should be. John Popper for sure is preserving the harmonica, John Popper is advancing the harmonica and John Popper certainly has my respect.

About 8 years ago when I was returning to playing the harmonicas, my son who is now 35 asked me to listen to some of his Blues Traveler cds. He said,"This Popper guy is awesome!!! He's doing things with harmonicas that no one else has ever done. He even carries them in gun belts over his shoulders. John Popper is Blues Traveler. No John Popper, no Blues
Traveler. Hope no one tries to be like him. He is the one and only."

Then in the next round of conversation my son said to me, "Please don't try to sound like John Popper when you play because when I listen to Blues Traveler I want to hear only John Popper, not a memory of someone imitating him." He further said, "Do your type of music and do it with your own style."

This is a guy, my son, who played in the school band for 6 years and knows music. He does not play harmonica (he has attempted) but he appreciates the instrument and how John Popper uses the harmonica to reach the masses.

I commend John Popper. He has touched people who would never know what a harmonica is.

I say it again. John Popper is preserving the harmonica. John Popper is advancing the harmonica. John Popper has my respect.

Eat and pass the sweet grapes, please.
