The discussions on this thread have so far focused on blues. However, there
is another possibility for 3rd position playing, which, although very
powerful, is rarely used. This is for gypsy style music, which is usually
played in minor keys. To see what I mean by this, take a C harmonica, and
play with the midi file at this link,

As far as I know, no one has recorded this type of music with 3rd position
harmonica. I would love to be corrected on this, or even better, to hear 3rd
position recordings by harp-l members of the Dm midi sequence at the link
(which is essentially the chords for "Minor Swing").
