[Harp-L] Band seeks advice / help

Friends in Music,
Please excuse this intrusion on your time. I have been a lurker on this
list for some time, but have seldom posted. My name is John Wolfe and I am
the leader of the Lime Hollow Boys, an old-time party & show band located in
far-northern NY, near the Quebec border. We are three young retirees now
free to pursue and share our mutual love of music. We also have a younger
(age 21) bandsman, a student at Berklee Music College in Boston. Though he
is presently in school, he takes time off to tour with us. He is an
exceptional talent who has performed with me since age 13. He plays wicked
piano, fiddle & accordion!
We play many styles of old-time music, such as Western Swing, C/W songs from
the 30 and 40's to the 60's, Jitterbugs, Fiddle tunes, Honky-tonk,
Sing-alongs, and even old-fashioned Square Dances & Reels; a real variety!
We have a large and loyal local following. We are the ONLY band in Northern
NY featuring harmonica as a front line solo instrument!
We are most interested in small city/town auditorium and dance venues where
a general audience can appreciate our unique variety of musical styles. We
frequently play for municipal concert series; fraternal, veterans, and fire
service events; senior citizen center dances and socials; and the like. We
seldom play in taverns or bars except for private parties. We've regularly
played for the last 40 weeks at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino; a local Native
American gaming establishment. We have a self-produced CD with sales
rapidly approaching 500 since May.
Although we are the premier local band for Old-Time music, we are beginning
to extend out into the larger scene. For example, we recently performed
four well-attended shows at the NY State Fair in Syracuse and were
immediately rehired for next year. We are scheduled to perform April 5,
2005 for the Tuesday Night Jamboree in Mooresville, NC.
I am looking for ideas from your experience, and possible bookings.
Specifically, we would like to shoe-horn at least a couple of additional
performances into the 1st week of April North Carolina trip mentioned above.
We will likely travel the I-81, I-77 corridor from NY to Mooresville, NC and
can branch out almost anywhere along the way in that general area. We would
certainly also be interested in traveling to other areas on other dates.
I sincerely appreciate your knowledge and connections, and hope to benefit
by any advice or assistance you choose to share.
Thank you for your interest and help in preserving our heritage of live
old-time music.
