Re: [Harp-L] closed covers

: )
Not wishing to start a major storm (as the one now passing through Florida ... whoops! I'm IN Florida... tonight's the night) I quote captron100 ... (Ron)

Scientific tests are run in places where the test can concentrate on the subject in hand, not be influenced by chat, distance, time between samples etc.
I do not question the two brave tests which have been done... I would defy anyone to be able to hear small differences between sound samples when a complete reed plate change has to be made between hearing samples or when there was significant chat between samples... this is what happened during these tests. A brave attempt? YES. Scientific? NO.

It was said that, generally speaking, professions
where subjectives do well include consultants, lawyers and professional
musicians. Professions of objective personality types: teachers. (Hmm, I wish i
could remember more, but it's been a long time.) Just a little insight into
some of the things that go into the making of a person.

Wow ... as a teacher musician does that mean I have a split personality or am I a complete person?
Or does it mean I was a bad teacher and a good musician or a bad musician and a good teacher.
I do NOT want answers to that question, thank you!

I actually believe the info in this post, As a teacher sort of incharge of going round many firms to place people you began to notice the 'types' and Yes, they did fall into the sorts of categories mentioned. The more interesting people were those who you couldn't categorise :))

Another interesting thing re this drive from the airport - after a stop at
a diner where we ate breakfast, Howard excused himself from conversation,
saying he wanted to warm up in prep for the seminar. I heard him working on a
toungue blocking technique that i had never heard of at the time - he was
practicing an octave riff where he played the run on the higher end of the harp while
simultaneously bending the lower notes!
At the time he was playing Filisko customized harps - Hohners with plastic
combs, iirc, but don't quote me on that last one.
