Re: [Harp-L] Re : A harmonica saved my life= true story

That reminds me Colombus Airport (Ohio), when I came at SPAH 2002 and I was going back to France. I was carrying something like 25 harmonicas in my handcase. When I went accross the metal detector which went crazy, the officer were already looking with X-Rays into my case. They smiled and told me "you're harmonica player, arn't you?" and they started to laugh. I was maybe the 100th harmonica player since the moprning coming to the airport.
The metal detector was ringing as much as it could be, but they left me go away without any question. It is just when I came to Atlanta Airport (the same day) that they asked me to empty my pockets and then, I just saw that I had my Laguiole (French Knife) with me. When I took it off my pocket, one of the policeman told me to "freeze!!!!".
they asked me to wait the officers. I have had to wait for 2 hours and repeat my story 20 times until they put my knife into my back and told me "Go away and shush".

I was scarried. I do not like gun moreover when I am at the not so good side of the gun. I have had to play a bit to show that I was really a harmonica!! Ho god! I have never had such stage fright!!

There is no way I could hope to come close to what you went through heh heh , were there " ladies " there at that club heh heh ! Poppa always said " a pair of hips can move more than a team of mules anyday " .

My funny little experience :

I had a gig at a county fair several years back , I did the sound check with the band and left with my harps in my suit pockets . When I returned to the fairgrounds later that evening for the show , I was waiting in line as people were being " patted down " and reviewed with metal detectors before being allowed back into the fairgrounds . I had several harps in my front coat pockets and inside the lapel pockets ( I do like wearing my suits to conceal and hold my different harps ) as I was " checked " with the metal detector it went off like crazy as it went from one side of my suit coat to another and then up top to the lapel pocket areas alarming all of the deputy sheriffs . I was told to " step aside and open my coat by a very serious and stern looking older veteran sheriff . As I did this , I was told not to move as I was reaching into one of my pockets to pull out a harp , this was told to me as several deputies reached for their guns ! When I saw this I really got n!
ervous and said " gentleman , please let me show you what your reacting too its is just a simple instrument " , with the biggest and happiest smile I could manage to express while shaking in my shoes literally ! ! I said then as they looked on with bewildered expressions " I am reaching into my pocket slowly O.K. ? " as they watched with their hands on their service pieces at the ready I produced a Hohner Golden Melody in its plastic case and as they eye balled it closely I snapped the lid open to see these fellows jump slightly as it popped open and then watched them all breath a relaxing collective sigh and then heard one say " O.K. move on " heh heh , I said jokingly to them :

" Wow this could have developed into a revolting situation ! ! " in my best Daffy duck impersonation heh heh , the deputies laughed too . I was wondering as I walked away if this was part of the dying devotion one must have to be a dedicated musician LOL .
