[Harp-L] Off-topic clarification [was Re: Veterans Day]

[Sincerest apologies for using the bandwidth this way, especially to our
wonderfully tolerant non-USA members. Delete as you wish.]

Now, I recognize some of my friends are teasing, others maybe not; but,
before I get much more flooded with emails on this, let me say... My
reference of "Getting dark now... need to go light the flag" addresses the
protocol for displaying the American Flag, one part of which says that no
flag after dark should continue being displayed without a light shining on
it. Luckily for me, I am able to hang the flag straight and flat [stars to
the upper left, of course] from our front porch directly in front the
brightly lit kitchen window. The nice glow is rather dramatic from some
distance away, in fact!

Otherwise, I would take it down and inside after dark, unlike many others,
even so-called patriots, who leave theirs out by the mailbox or whatever,
regardless of the time of day... or weather! My "lit" flag is sheltered from
rain and dirt, and at least wasn't stolen as I witnessed my political
yardsign being snatched by goons at 4 AM. [I chased them down in my van and
recovered it, BTW, although it was kicked over twice again in broad
daylight!] My free speech vs. their free expression, I guess.

But, if the time should come to discard my flag, I shall, IN FACT, "burn" it,
because that is the ONLY method deemed acceptable for destroying the USA
flag. I don't doubt other countries have similar codes of etiquette for
their flags.

I vividly recall days when people were loudly chided for wearing the flag on
or as clothing. Nowadays, some same people see nothing wrong with letting
their grandchildren toddle about in diapers adorned with American flags.
Now, THAT's a statement! Umm, I better shut up before I get in trouble! ;)

Ok, how about..... Harp THIS!

Bobbie
