WVa Bob..........Since you asked for opinions, I'll ventured my wild ass guess.
(Can't be any more factual than that.)  I would guess the opening riff and the
song structure were probably "arranged".   Or, at least, loosely decided upon. 
I'd say the solo is more likely to be improvised.  I haven't heard the
outtakes.  How does it differ from the released version?  In the solo?, the
theme?, the overall structure?
