A couple a things to try.

1) When the singing is happening, try playing tongued octaves, and lock in 
with the off beat
mandolin rhythm.
2) For solos, try second position in the top octave (e.g. starting on the 
#9 blow). This will help to
cut through, and will sound different than the standard blues moves
3) Learn some of the fiddle tunes. For pointers on this, and links to some
