If you use fine sandpaper (200, 400, 600 or so) and remove along the =
whole width of the reed, starting at the very base end by the rivet, and =
continuing just shy of middle, you can safely lower the pitch much more =
than a full step. You can use little pieces wrapped around a small tool =
(screwdriver, etc.) or buy some sanding wands.

  Subject: tuning and ruining reeds

  hi,=20
i want to tune a Bb harp's draw three down a whole step. i've gone =
thru several because the reed gets ruined as there seems to be so much =
metal that needs to be removed to tune a full step. any advice as to how =
to have the reed retuned a whole step - like, a down to g - and not =
destroy the reed in the process?
  thanks,
  vadie
