Re: TONE



If we refuse to define something (even by saying that it's too difficult),
it becomes impossible to learn.  It is through the act of defining that we
determine what must be learned.  The best teachers define religiously, and
the best students are the most understanding of said definitions.

To me, tone is timbre.  Some categorize things like attack, vibrato, hand
effects, tongue slaps, etc., as "tone".  In reality these are technique.
They do shape the overall sound, but they're not technically "tone", any
more so than changing notes (or harps) is.

One can have good tone and still sound like oneself.  Really ;-)
