Record Companies

I've got a question for mainly the Canadians out there, but god knows who 
could provide insight.

I need to assimilate a better record collection and I'm looking at 
joining a club, like Columbia House or BMG.  However, I don't know if any 
of these offer the kind of selection I'm looking for.  I need to 
familiarize myself with the artists discussed on the list, as well as 
expose 
myself to a lot more harp to better my playing.  I also need to do it in 
the most affordable way possible.  Are there ample selections with these 
groups or should I look at other means of starting my collection?  Any 
insight would be appreciated.
