Dateline: Adler

This past Friday night, I caught most of a segment on NBC's Dateline
[news, interviews and commentary program] which featured Larry Adler.
Although much was made of his recent 80th birthday and newly released
album called The Glorious Gershwin Years [that title may not be right,]
a brief documentary of his life was presented, using old and newer photos
and film along with clips from an interview. They covered his rise to
considerable fame playing in musicals and motion pictures, and how he was
blacklisted along with other entertainers of his day who were accused of
being communist sympathizers by Sen. McCarthy and his gang. So, unable
to find work, he moved to England, where eventually he met an especially
talented, ingenious, personable young harmonicist whom he employed to make
the world's finest harmonicas for him and......

Well, ok, I have to admit that last statement didn't "exactly" reflect
the content of the report on TV. But it SHOULD HAVE!! Right Douglas?! ;)

The story closed with a film clip of him playing Rhapsody in Blue with
a programmed, automated piano accompanying him in Gershwin's own style.
Personally, so far, I think I prefer Doug's playing over what little I've
heard of Adler! Maybe Douglas on 60 Minutes? Nightline?
