Let me reiterate that I'm NOT a big Popper fan. The guy is fast, and the 
guy is clean.
Faster and cleaner than most by a long shot.
And I'm not saying that the players listed (most of all Howard Levy) aren't 
also amazing.
But I think that Popper is extremely proficient at what he does in 
addition to serving as a decent introduction to the instrument 
for folks from my generation who haven't heard of the other cats because they 
are either too lazy or too apathetic to go seek them out.
You shouldn't (and, in fact, can't with any justification) say that he's 
not a technically excellent player.
