Errrrmmmmm .... YES!!!!!  The problem you were experiencing is just human
beings replacing the ground pin.

I had a similar experience at a small club (with no grounded outlets)
recently.  Every time the guitar player moved, the extra lengths of strings
sprouting from his tuning pegs would whip me across the face.  Bad enough
at any time, but even worse when they are carrying 110 volts.  Kind of like
being attacked by a hybrid jellyfish electric eel.

I got my own back by handing him my mike ... "hold this while I got to the
bathroom."

We solved the problem by a) taking a pair of snips to his guitar and b)
reversing one of the two pin plugs we were using (i.e. pull it out of the
outlet, rotate through 180 degrees and put it back in).

It is at times like this I am glad the U.S. only uses 110v.  The standard
U.K. 240v *hurts*!!  But then, it's almost impossible to use an ungrounded
plug in the U.K, due to the outlet design.
