G. Love and Special Sauce

Opened up this weekend for G. Love and Special Sauce and
I'm curious what harpers think of this artist. His popularity
here in austin is big; his fans filled a fairly large hall.
I heard some of his harp playing on the Nike commercial that featured
William Burroughs and I thought it was weak. What I saw on Friday--
only three songs-- was quite different. Almost coffehouse type rap
blues; stand-up bass, drums, guitar and harp. He played some "squeaky"
Jimmy Reed style harp and wasn't bad. Anyway, his music is popular
among the kids and his blues-influenced style says something.
I worry about a whole generation growing up with almost no interest in
blues; I guess G. Love is showing that youngsters will accept blues
in different stylistic settings.
