Could it be that harp has an image as a trivial easy-to-play instrument
that everyone, at some stage, wheezes into. Being cheap, it attracts
people who wouldn't make a real investment in an instrument (either money
or time-wise). In short, harp attracts more gobshites than any other
instrument. Once you get to the better players though, all the gobshites
get filtered out (unlike a certain 6-stringed instrument, which shall
remain nameless).
