Years ago, a harmonica mentor of mine told me that there are 2 rules
about sitting in...

   1. Never sit in unless you are asked.
   2. Never ask to sit in.

I was living in Nashville at the time; so maybe it's part of the environment
there.  I was a newbie harp player at the time; so I took it as words to
live by.  Different cities do seem to have different unspoken "rules".

Of course, advertised jams are quite another story.
