 This is one of the main reasons I don't go play at blues jams.  It's 
oftentimes a big pissing contest.  It's like that for all the players.  
If you're new and don't go with someone who can vouch for you you get 
stuck with the misfit band.  It's hard enough to sound good with a band 
you've played with before but a bad one with people you've never seen 
before is a setup.  Wait to play then blow their doors off?  It's not a 
contest.  Harmonica players are musicians first.  It's about expression.  
The chip on the shoulder stuff starts to wear thin after awhile.  It's 
not that I don't like jams I do.  Just not the cutthroat ones that are 
more about manuvering than playing.  A lot of musicians have huge egos.  
Put them together in a room and what's going to happen.  


FJM remember conventional wisdom is just that.

P.S. it's becoming apparent that there aren't many women on this list.
